Getting Faded Summer Hair Rx

Posted on by Brandi Bee Bond

As a master stylist I have heard it all from my clientele. But every summer clients experience their hair color fading, and moisture loss. Here are a few suggestions for you to keep those locks luscious all Summer long.

Any amount of sun exposure will fade natural and colored hair. The dangers that sun plus heat pose to your mane are increased dryness, and color loss. Here are a few techniques we use in the salon to combat this summer damage.

If the ends of your hair are dry and brittle once a week while your hair is still dry apply your daily conditioner on the ends. For best results, Split your hair into two low pony tails and apply a palm full of product to the strands. Work the conditioner in by squeezing up the hair sections to ensure complete saturation. Now simply clip them up! This treatment can sit while you touch up your manicure, or clean the house. Give the conditioner at least 15-20 minutes to set in, then shampoo and condition as normal. I like to apply, hop right in the shower and rinse my treatment at the end. Some of my favorite potions for the job are It's a 10 Conditioner, Pureology Nano Works Conditioner and Moroccan Oil daily Conditioner.

If your color is playing a disappearing act after those long sunny summer days try a sunscreen. There are almost too many to choose from, the one I love is Redken's Color Extend Sun SPF 12. It smells fresh it's easy to apply and protects both the hair and scalp!

who’s the flat-est of them all?

Posted on by Brandi Bee Bond

Clients ask me what tools they should buy for styling their hair at home all the time. The first thing I look for in a styling tool is how long is the warranty for. If the warranty is more than a year it means its a quality styling product.  Second, I want to know how my client will feel using the tool on oneself.  The last item of consideration is the price. I want the best product for the least amount money, yet I don’t want something that will break in a few uses.

I shimmied down to Target to see what they had for styling tools. I picked up three different flat irons to see which flat iron would come out top.

1. Revlon 1” Straightener $24.99

The first thing I noticed was that there was no warranty at all. While using the flat iron, the handle became so hot I couldn’t even stand to use it.  Then, when I ran it through my hair I could feel my hair getting caught and pulling out. It’s really cute, but that’s all it has going for it.

2. Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic 1" Silk & Curl Straightener
 $34.99

This flat iron was amazing for the price. It has a two-year warranty and it didn’t pull my hair. The flat iron left my hair feeling soft and looking super shiny. PLUS its cute. Totally great, I love it!

3. CHI Air Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron with Thermal Clutch - 1" $84.99

CHI always has products that feel good, look good and work perfect.  This flat iron lived up to the CHI name and it also has a two-year warranty. This iron glided through my hair effortlessly, but the price is a bit much.

The Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic 1" Silk & Curl Straightener & CHI Air Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron with Thermal Clutch are my top two picks. They both made my hair look and feel great while offering a great warranty.

My top Pick however is the Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic 1" Silk & Curl Straightener. It’s $50 less than the other and did the same job. I feel every one of my clients can use this styling tool with success and it’s great on the pocket book.

I found this little GEM in the heart of Arcadia and couldn't pass her up!

I was searching for a salon with soul, and I found it.

Just last Friday we had an event in the salon. A client Sarah wanted to know how to use the three barrel curling iron was all about so I hooked it up for her.

I was looking up information about my Zoom H4 recorder and I found this great video of this beautiful young lady singing Karma Police. She has more videos about the same recorder I have. She reminds me of vision, of inspriation, of people doing what they can to feel right in this world. I love doing hair but I also have a heart for audio recording. Audio is a beautiful gift we are blessed to have. We use it every time we communicate though we never reconize its exsistence. In my time I have heard that audio(sound) is touch from a distence. I totally agree with this. With that said take a listen to this woman and check out her awesome haircut - because I love it.

p.s. she is just hillarious.
